I do invitations but only those printed on photo paper. You could personalize and customize to your liking and perhaps add a hand tied bow on it.

Farmer Lea uses a tiller to break up the soil to prepare for spring planting.

I joined Facebook a few years ago for the simple reason of wanting to stay in touch with my family and share photos of the farm with them.
After working long hours on the farm, I would check in on Facebook and get invites to join Farmville from friends and family and I would refuse, mumbling to myself, “Who has time for this?” But, finally, I gave in and tried it.
The game opens with a small garden plot, big enough to feed two people. The first task is to harvest mature eggplants and tomatoes. A suspended knife magically hovers over the eggplants, and within 10 seconds it is harvested. Then you hover over the tomatoes and poof, they’re harvested. I need one of those knives! (It doesn’t mention tomato worms, which need to be removed before they eat the whole plant, or pruning the plants to promote more fruit, or trellising your plants so they don’t fall over with the weight of the fruit. Or that you should plants indoors in March to make sure you have enough days in the growing season for the plants to mature before the first frost. Nope, just a wave of your hovering knife and you’re all set!)
Farmville’s next task for you is to hoe the area and choose another vegetable to grow. Wow, is it really that easy? Better check with Farmer Lea, whose job every spring and fall is to till the soil, plant green manure (a cover crop such as clover, peas, alfalfa, that is planted before and after the main crop and then is tilled into the soil to add nutrients), add organic fertilizer and goat manure and through the summer have our volunteer wwoofers help her weed the gardens.
With another click, it’s time to plant something in that freshly tilled plot. I chose soybeans. In the description, it says they could be harvested in one day. Hah, wishful thinking. In reality, we might be lucky to plant our seeds in the garden the last week in May, if the snow has melted and rains have calmed down, all the while being attacked by black flies (always a blast when trying to get your veggies in); the inevitable drought that follows has us watering the 1.5-acre garden manually — not an easy task at any time of the year. Then we have to fend off the potato beetles, rabbits, deer, bear and any other critter that might feel our garden is theirs also (this would include our goat and chicken escapees).
I moved on to the Farmville animals and found out that I didn’t have enough money to buy animals. OK, so that’s more true to life!
All through the game, pop-ups kept distracting me from my farm work, just like at the farm, when people drop in to see what Farmer Lea and Farmer Dee are up to. Too bad we can’t throw a hoe in their hands and get them to work while they talk (bet they wouldn’t stick around for long!).
Needless to say, I didn’t have much time for Farmville … because I had to feed the real animals.
So, friends and family, if you are a closeted farmer and want to experience the real thing, please feel free to drop by and test your Farmville skills on a real farm. We’re always looking for helpers!
